Day 1 Boarded forward in Barcelona at all around 11. There was a number of 4 trips to book cheapest was 45 and dearest was 50 pp designed for 4 hours but we just stayed on board and enjoyed the facilities. There were camels all the way down at the port where you could just go for an easy ride on one and additionally take photos.
Day 3 The island of malta arrived 8 am. Beautiful port with old sandstone walls and also you felt you were right part way through the town. I had pre-booked Niall going Scuba Diving with Subway Diving centre so they picked him up in the ship early and he'd 2 dives and they dropped him back in time for lunch.
This was only 70 pounds and he said it had been well worth it. Myself and my mother just thought i would head off the deliver ourselves to do a certain amount of shopping. There were Taxis at the dock and we only just got one for 10 euros to bring us to the center of shopping area. You might have walked it but prob become about 20 mins and we weren't sure the direction. Shopping is often a must in Malta even as we definitely found it to be the cheapest - there is loads of shops discos restuarants and little arcades by using souvenir shops etc. Also, there are duty free shops together with ATM at the port and you can buy your cigarettes or perfumes there simply because it was cheap!! Shoes may also be cheap in Malta.
We didn't really do much sightseeing but again you'll be able to pre-book tours on any ship or we heard about people hiring taxis intended for 40 - 50 euros taking them on a excursion. Tours on ship ranged because of 38 for half morning to 90 for maximum day.
Day 4 Messina Sicily, Again a gorgeous port to pull into as we were right in this town. We just walked off of the ship and within 10 minutes we were in this beautiful square with a church. At midday the gold statues for the church start to move starting with a lion that roars in addition to a chorus of Ave Maria, its really
Is spectacular and there is a huge crowd gathered there to look at. There is also a fabulous tourist train that brings you to the town. Messina is a well used historical town and a tad run down but useful. You could also just drop by the beach or sit inside the square and have any icecream or coffee. There is an Irish Club just opposite the opening about 100 yards left. No shops at your port but plenty within the town itself.
Day 5 Civitavecchia. This is quite an excessive port so a bit more industrial. The tours into Rome were including 45 to 90 each person so we chosen to do it ourselves. We mistakingly got an important taxi from ship to Civitavecchia place which was robbery located at 20 euros - it absolutely was less than a 5 min taxi ride so that you can walk it.
