  • my little creation

i heard so much. so much so i wanted to write a song to express everything i want to say. however, i failed. decided to write a song of myself instead, of how i overcame and God made a way in my life. yes, this is the song that i've written, hope you like it.

    THE END OF TIME

    time is running against me
    i feel breathless, tired, weary
love seem so distant, mum so hostile
the planet is left with only me

    stranded, broken, alone
i started running, towards my dream
the sun sets quicker than i want it to be
touched the edge, but everything turns dim

    fear creeps up yet again
    then i saw you coming
    the voice so surreal
    i can't believe you're talking
affirmed me, painted colours in my dreams
    telling me again and again

it's not the end of time
i'll let your hand hold mine
through all the down and difficult times
    i know we will survive
because you have me by your side
fear not for i am just nearby
    be of good courage
for my love will sustain you
    till the end of time

  • i'm a suspect of loaning my account to a loanshark

got a call from high court saying i did not attend a court hearing.

what crap. i went to the police to verify my innocence.

realised i'm involved in a scam.

made the first even police report in my life.

    i'm traumatized.

  • an open letter to mr charles tay

thanks for peeping over here (if you are reading this). well, forgive my english, i can't write as well, and refuse to (since i see no point writing in error-free English over here, it takes time and that's something i don't have now, considering the fact that i gotta study and am still blogging simply because i think i have stuff to say if you are CAUGHT peeping around... hehe...

thanks for the endless conversations over the phone. it rather unbelievable that both of us have so much to talk about. we've talked for at least 10 times (counting from 1 Jan cuz that's the furthest i can remember), clocking our time spent talking over the phone to be at least 35h i suppose? that's more than a day! And 35h is a conservative figure, you know that too well. haha...

i used to ask you which sort of communication method you prefer the most, reason being i don't see anything in charles that tells me he would talk over the phone for more than 36 seconds (the average length of phone calls made). I used to ask you if you sms a lot, and if you sms to many people everyday, cuz i just can't figure out how you'd managed to sustain a conversation, albeit a short one, with me over text-messages. 'twas cool though, i found out something i hadn't known. charles has lots to talk about. haha...

thanks for the day at Labrador Park. Well, if you hadn't realise, you should. I enjoyed my day very much. I haven't gone out with people in such a setting all my life. it'll be indexed into my memory(that's a scientific way of saying the day would be deeply etched into my memory) for some time i guess. or, considering the fact that my memory is urggh... good... perhaps i'll remember it for life, especially when i revisit the place in the near future.

oh yea... you'd been worried about your university application and the finances required. let me bring you a facet of the issue. you'd been worried about your a levels results, after that, your opportunities to get accepted into a law school. following that was your parents, then your fundings required. everything seems yet ambiguous and uncertain, but i believe (with all of my heart, that's what ps kong always says), that things will work out for you, like how God made a way for Jamie. Right. You may try surrendering the situation into His hands, and trust that He'll give you a way higher than your own way, and watch the miracle unravel right before your eyes, when you find the best opportunity, or perhaps a miraculous acceptance from some universities, and find ways to get the money you need.
"Fear not, for I am with you."-Holy Bible

So if you ever read this, or perhaps you will, since you are already reading it till here, hope it does cheer you up. No worries, I did not say whatever I shouldn't, or couldn't, or didn't want to say over the phone. Hehe. I may be tired but there are things that i am conscious of, unless i'm in my dreams. haha... dreams offer you the fourth dimension, remember? that's my fourth dimension. the impossible. lol.

i gotta end here. i'll make sure the photos find their way into your hands. leave it to me.

:) remember to smile. that's the best way to socialise without words. hehe

cheers and regards and with all due respect,
    nianz

  • dilemma

it's been a while since i last logged here. so much has happened, so much that i can't recall.

first, it was the mas selamat issue. well, his battalion got activated, but being confronted by ignorance, i thought the trip made was a dangerous one. oh well it is, to the whole of singapore, but as far as i know, no one died in his hands yet. thank God.

then it was malaysia election. i AM supposed to read about it, cuz the UN conference that will be commencing in a few days' time, 13-15march, i will present on their grounds. gotta be the ambassador of malaysia and lobby around to garner votes for my resolution proposed on the question of zimbabwe and its impact on regional stability. besides that, i have to give speeches, vote, research, and do all sorts of things a typical singaporean would shun from.

top three fears of most people (according to a research conducted in whatever the place)
    1. Public Speaking
    2. Snakes
    3. Death

Lol, i still can't accept the fact that i gotta be at the top all the time. most certainly i haven't volunteered. every event i'm involved in, i'm more often than not the leader. and it's really tough being one, when you know others are much better than you but unwilling to serve.

leadership positions i've taken all my life that i can remember
-class monitor and chinese rep in primary one
-discipline mistress of girl guides in sec one, patrol second in sec two, patrol leader in sec three, and assistant company leader in sec four
-love fiesta planning comm, orientation 2 planning comm, jurong primary school camp facilitator, class chairperson, civil defence club vice-president, Project Work(A levels) group leader, SIMUN (SIngapore Model United Nations) conference leader, SIMUN student coordinator and schedular, not forgetting i'm the Family Head of orientation 1 this year.

thank God i'm (almost) always at the top, but it gets tough sometimes, really tough.

When the going gets tough, the tough gets going.

Right. Besides that i've fallen sick, and pulled through all my tests and am lucky, in fact, blessed to be still ALIVE.

And yes, i've failed my math when the class passed the test and half did very well indeed, and i'm one of the black sheep getting 3/12 for normal distribution. my bio test? i scored 15.5/30. hey. please remember that biology is my LIFE, and i do well in it. 'twas a great trauma, though i laughed it off in front of my friends telling them i haven't studied and expected that kinda results. yea. i haven't studied. haha. deserve that kinda consequence.

I GOT A C FOR CHINESE!! kk i'm not exactly excited. in fact i'm quite disappointed. i mean, i used to do so very well in chinese. but who cares, i'm not offered the chance to retake the exam, and thus i gotta move on. Valerie scored CCD for her a levels. Jia Xin scored E for chinese when she got A1 in O levels. Life is unpredictable. It's better this way, nonetheless fear grips people so tightly when they don't know what's going to happen. Just like Charles and his university application. It's scary I must admit, and admit again,

That's basically whatever that's happening. And I wanted to put quotes here, but it's such a hassle, thinking of what to put.

This is, however, the verse for the season for me.

Mark 5:36 Do not be afraid, only believe...

Fear terrorizes, paralyses, and gives people disillusions. But without fear, is there faith? Without fear, would humans be still above animals, since the ability to overcome fear is a Homo sapien trait? Without fear, would there be love, since perfect love cast out fear? Without fear, would i have overcome anything?

oh yea. i gotta admit i was pretty shocked when i found out cHarLeS had been spying and sneaking over here. LOL. After a whole night of pondering, I realised, probably things i've written here i actually wanted him to see. why would i write here when i can write IN MY DIARY??!! Was quite alarmed, almost disturbed, by the fact that I want to tell him what I can't put forth through voice conversations in words over here when i half hope that he won't see, but otherwise hoping he would see it.

    Lol. Humans are interesting creatures.

  • time is the most precious element we have. do you agree?

haha. i still remember the time i sacrificed the whole afternoon, in fact, whole day, just to keep him company. actually i'm quite scared that he'll look over here, cuz i gave him my blog address. but come again, who will look over here except him, because he's the only soul on earth i gave my blog address to?

but i gotta study. no joke. i need my results to get into NUS, hopefully medical school.

charles, all the best to your university admission! may the lord and your little angel (that is me) watch over you. hehe.

    love love my God...

  • that saturday when i shunned you

arrgh. i can't believe it. I'm trying to shun from people. Especially the person I'm supposed to be familiar with.

lol. found out a reason why we're not meant to be.

If only this is a game, let it play on forever. Let me be totally entrenched, immersed, soaked, let me lose my way out. I don't want to know we're not meant to be. I want to know he's my dark knight, my castle, my refuge. I want to know I'm not overly sensitive, i'm predicting the right things, and i'm still as smart as ever in such strategy games. I want to know i'm loved, remembered, cared for, watched over, by you.

If music be the food of love, play on,
Give me excess of it; that surfeiting,
The appetite may sicken, and so die.

    ~Shakespear, Twelfth Night

Duke. And what ’s her history?
Vio. A blank, my lord. She never told her love,
But let concealment, like a worm i’ the bud,
Feed on her damask cheek: she pined in thought,
And with a green and yellow melancholy
She sat like patience on a monument,
    Smiling at grief
    .

  • i found out

i found out that pictures can actually be saved directly from here. lol. blurry me... was using mozilla firefox the previous time.

had been so sick recently. so sick, though i was going to die. 38.9degC, 39.2, 39.5, 39.8degC!!

could feel all the emzymes denaturing in my body.

poor diary got forsaken for a day. last entry was the song i wrote, inspired by him. hehe.

stupid me. keep checking that phone for whatever flaming reason it is. oh gosh.

haix. i cannot, cannot, cannot. when will my mind ever listen to my heart and vice versa?

  • love never fails. discuss.

lol. it's found in the Bible! love never fails.

But will love fail? it has failed once, twice, thrice,... , so many times i can't remember.

I love mummy. But she hates me. Won't even give me her one minute of attention.

Sigh. I'm really afraid to embrace love, for fear of being hurt again.

    God, you're my only hope.

And you, I'm wondering. Charles, have you fallen in love?

  • chocolates

    Pleasure of consuming
Part of the pleasure of eating chocolate is due to the fact that its melting point is slightly below human body temperature: it melts in the mouth. A study reported by the BBC indicated that melting chocolate in one's mouth produced an increase in brain activity and heart rate that was more intense than that associated with passionate kissing, and also lasted four times as long after the activity had ended.[25]

    Potential health benefits and risks
Recent studies have suggested that cocoa or dark chocolate may possess certain beneficial effects on human health. Dark chocolate, with its high cocoa content, is a rich source of the flavonoids epicatechin and gallic acid, which are thought to possess cardioprotective properties. Cocoa possesses a significant antioxidant action, protecting against LDL oxidation, perhaps more than other polyphenol antioxidant-rich foods and beverages. Processing cocoa with alkali destroys most of the flavonoids.[26] Some studies have also observed a modest reduction in blood pressure and flow-mediated dilation after consuming approximately 100g of dark chocolate daily. There has even been a fad diet, named "Chocolate diet", that emphasizes eating chocolate and cocoa powder in capsules. However, consuming milk chocolate or white chocolate, or drinking fat-containing milk with dark chocolate, appears largely to negate the health benefit.[27] Processed cocoa powder (so called Dutch chocolate), processed with alkali greatly reduces the antioxidant capacity as compared to "raw" cocoa powder. [28] Chocolate is also a calorie-rich food with a high fat content, so daily intake of chocolate also requires reducing caloric intake of other foods.

Two-thirds of the fat in chocolate comes in the forms of a saturated fat called stearic acid and a monounsaturated fat called oleic acid. However, unlike other saturated fats, stearic acid does not raise levels of LDL cholesterol in the bloodstream.[29] Consuming relatively large amounts of dark chocolate and cocoa does not seem to raise serum LDL cholesterol levels; some studies even find that it could lower them[30].

Several population studies have observed an increase in the risk of certain cancers among people who frequently consume sweet 'junk' foods such as chocolate. However, very little evidence exists to suggest whether consuming flavonoid-rich dark chocolate may increase or decrease the risk of cancer. Evidence from laboratory studies suggests that cocoa flavonoids may possess anticarcinogenic mechanisms, but more research is needed to prove this idea.

The major concern that nutritionists have is that even though eating dark chocolate may favorably affect certain biomarkers of cardiovascular disease, the amount needed to have this effect would provide a relatively large quantity of calories which, if unused, would promote weight gain. Obesity is a significant risk factor for many diseases, including cardiovascular disease. As a consequence, consuming large quantities of dark chocolate in an attempt to protect against cardiovascular disease has been described as 'cutting off one's nose to spite one's face'.[31].

Studies suggest a specially formulated type of cocoa may boost brain function and delay decline as people age.[32]

Small but regular amounts of dark chocolate were shown to lower the possibility of heart attack.[33]

Mars, Incorporated, a Virginia-based candy company, spends millions of dollars each year on flavonol research.[citation needed] The company is talking with pharmaceutical companies to license drugs based on synthesized cocoa flavonol molecules. According to Mars-funded researchers at Harvard, the University of California, and European universities, cocoa-based prescription drugs could potentially help treat diabetes, dementia and other diseases.[34]

Other research indicates that chocolate may be effective at preventing persistent coughing. The ingredient theobromine was found to be almost one third more effective than codeine, the leading cough medicine.[35] The chocolate also appears to soothe and moisten the throat.

South American and European cultures have used cocoa to treat diarrhea for hundreds of years.[36] A study done at Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland, in collaboration with scientists at Heinrich Heine University in Germany, has shown that flavonoids can inhibit the development[clarify] of fluids that result in diarrhea.[37]

Chocolate contains a variety of substances, some of which have an effect on body chemistry. These include:
    * Sugar
    * Theobromine, the primary alkaloid in cocoa and chocolate[38] and partly responsible for chocolate's mood-elevating effect
    * Tryptophan, an essential amino acid and precursor to serotonin
    * Phenethylamine, an endogenous alkaloid sometimes described as a 'love chemical;[39] it is quickly metabolized by monoamine oxidase-B and does not reach the brain in significant amounts
    * Caffeine, present only in very small amounts[38]

Chocolate is a mild stimulant to humans mainly mainly due to the presence of theobromine.[40] It is much more potent for horses, and its use in horse racing is prohibited. Theobromine is also a contributing factor in acid reflux due to its relaxing effects on the esophageal sphincter muscle.

    Aphrodisiac
Romantic lore commonly identifies chocolate as an aphrodisiac. The reputed aphrodisiac qualities of chocolate are most often associated with the simple sensual pleasure of its consumption. More recently, it has been suggested that theobromine and other chemicals found in chocolate, most notably phenethylamine, can act as mild sexual stimulants. While there is no firm proof that chocolate is indeed an aphrodisiac, a gift of chocolate is a familiar courtship ritual.[41].

    Acne
There is a popular belief that the consumption of chocolate can cause acne. Various studies seem to show that this is the case for high glycemic index foods in general, though the question is still being studied. Milk is known to cause acne, including any which is mixed with chocolate.[42]

    Lead
Chocolate has one of the higher concentrations of lead among products that constitute a typical Westerner's diet. Recent studies have shown that although the beans themselves absorb little lead, it tends to bind to cocoa shells and contamination may occur during the manufacturing process.[43] A recent peer-reviewed publication found significant amounts of lead in chocolate.[44] A review article published in a peer-reviewed journal in 2006 states that despite high consumption levels of chocolate, there is a paucity of data on lead concentrations in chocolate products. In a USDA study in 2004, mean lead levels in the samples tested ranged from 0.0010 to 0.0965 µg lead per gram of chocolate, but another study by a Swiss research group in 2002 found that some chocolate contained up to 0.769 µg per gram, close to the international (voluntary) standard limit for lead in cocoa powder or beans, which is 1 µg of lead per gram.[45] In 2006, the U.S. FDA lowered by one-fifth the amount of lead permissible in candy, but compliance is only voluntary.[46] While studies show that the lead consumed in chocolate may not all be absorbed by the human body, there is no known threshold for the effects of lead on children's brain function and even small quantities of lead can cause permanent neurodevelopmental deficits including impaired IQ.[47]

    Toxicity in animals
In sufficient amounts, the theobromine found in chocolate is toxic to animals such as horses, dogs, parrots, small rodents, and cats (kittens especially) because they are unable to metabolise the chemical effectively. If they are fed chocolate, the theobromine will remain in their bloodstream for up to 20 hours, and these animals may experience epileptic seizures, heart attacks, internal bleeding, and eventually death. Medical treatment involves inducing vomiting within two hours of ingestion, or contacting a veterinarian.

A typical 20-kilogram (40-l:) dog will normally experience great intestinal distress after eating less than 240 grams (8.5 oz) of dark chocolate, but will not necessarily experience bradycardia or tachycardia unless it eats at least a half a kilogram (1.1 l:) of milk chocolate. Dark chocolate has 2 to 5 times more theobromine and thus is more dangerous to dogs. According to the Merck Veterinary Manual, approximately 1.3 grams of baker's chocolate per kilogram of a dog's body weight (0.02 oz/l:) is sufficient to cause symptoms of toxicity. For example, a typical 25-gram (0.88 oz) baker's chocolate bar would be enough to bring about symptoms in a 20-kilogram (44 l:) dog. Of course, baking chocolate is rarely consumed directly due to its unpleasant taste, but other dark chocolates' canine toxicities may be extrapolated based on this figure. As dogs like the taste of chocolate products as much as humans do, and are capable of finding and eating quantities much larger than typical human servings, they should be kept out of their reach. There are reports that mulch made from cacao bean shells is dangerous to pets (and other animals). Treats made from carob can be used to substitute and pose no health threat to animals.
