  • the story behind valentine's day

:) Rome, 3rd century, there lived a priest named Valentine, who, married off couples...'I now pronounce you, husband and wife.' He was a strong believer in love and love was the solution to all problems...

The Romans were happy with their families..men worked hard to provide for their families, the women were taking care of their children...everybody was happy....

Rome was under the rule of Claudius 11...the city was involved in several wars. One day, at the emperor's palace...'What do you mean no one wants to join the army??' The emperor wanted to know..
Soldier: No man is willing to join the army by leaving his wife and children....
Emperor: They don't want to join the army because of their wife and children! If that be the case then hereby I proclaim that, no one is allowed to marry and have families...marriage is banned!!!
    Soldier: YES YOUR HONOUR!!!

The soldier went to carry out the orders of the emperor. No one was happy with the new law. The bride and grooms feared. Men were arrested... Priests who conducted marriage ceremonies were captured...

St. Valentine was disappointed with the new law. He continued to marry off couples secretly. One night, while St. Valentine was conducting a marriage...'I now pronounce you husband and wife!' ''knocking'' bang! Bang!...
    Bride: Who's that...?
St. Valentine: I think it must be the soldiers! Quick!!! Escape through that door!!!
    Groom: What about you!!!
St. Valentine: Don't worry about me...
    Soldier: Where are the couples...???
St. Valentine: I don't know, arrest me, I'm responsible for this....!!!

St. Valentine was arrested for violating the emperor's law and helping couples escape... DEATH WAS THE PENALTY! St. Valentine didn't feel guilty for what he did..he strongly believed in love. So did the people in Rome...they threw flowers through the window as a symbol of appreciation

Among the people, there was a young lady, who admired St. Valenthne..a real beauty with a heart of love..she was the jailor's daughter. She gave St. Valentine courage and spirit..and the two fell in love..!!!

FEBRUARY 14th, the day St. Valentine was going to die. He wrote a small note for his love..kissed her for the last time...and gave her the note, which read...
    LOVE VALENTINE!
His death was marked as the day that lovers send their love note- VALENTINE'S DAY!!!
