कुम्भ पर्व' एक अमृत स्नान और अमृतपान की बेला है। इसी समय गंगा की पावन धारा में अमृत का सतत प्रवाह होता है। इसी समय कुम्भ स्नान का संयोग बनता है। कुम्भ पर्व भारतीय जनमानस की पर्व चेतना की विराटता का द्योतक है। विशेषकर उत्तराखंड की भूमि पर तीर्थ नगरी हरिद्वार का कुम्भ तो महाकुम्भ कहा जाता है। भारतीय संस्कृति की जीवन्तता का प्रमाण प्रत्येक 12 वर्ष में यहाँ आयोजित होता है। … पर आयोजित एक वार्षिक समारोह है।कुम्भ योग ग्रहों की निम्न स्थिति के अनुसार बनता है-
जब सूर्य एवं चंद्र मकर राशि में होते हैं और अमावस्या होती है तथा मेष अथवा वृषभ के बृहस्पति होते हैं तो प्रयाग में कुम्भ महापर्व का योग होता है। इस अवसर पर त्रिवेणी में स्नान करना सहस्रों अश्वमेध यज्ञों, सैकड़ों वाजपेय यज्ञों तथा एक लाख बार पृथ्वी की प्रदक्षिणा करने से भी अधिक पुण्य प्रदान करता है। … जाएगी ।
