`durian smells bad but taste so good!!!! I just know it..hehe ' .. may b U dislike the smell but for most Malaysian we love the smell .. eerrrmmm .. marvelous

MARDI (Malaysian Agricultural Research Development Institute) is doing research how to take away the smell from the durian so that it could b enjoyed by people who don't like the offending smell of the durian but like to enjoy the taste of the fruits .. Mardi is in the process of producing hybrid durian plants that could serve this purpose ..

but for most of us if U take away the smell of the durian from the fruit, then that durian will not b called durian anymore :):)

.. the one in the pic is unique >> one stem with two fruits, a twin I should say .. the season in my hometown is about ended .. normally it starts around early July to middle of August, but this time around it started a bit early .. the pic was taken about 22 June 09 .. the flowering of the durian trees is dictated by the season n weather >> it needs a fairly dry period of about 2 weeks in Jan or Feb every year for the flowers to come out n the fruits will start to ripen n fall off the trees in early July to middle of August ..

.. in Thailand they pluck the fruits while not ripen yet n the shelf life can b prolong .. but in Malaysia we allow the fruits to ripen on the trees n fall off on its own >> the smell is fantastic, unlike the Thai durian where the smell is subdued ..ours U get more kick eating them :):):)
