    A novel as a result of first-time author Amor Towles set in 1930s New York, "Rules of Civility" was published in 2011 and should be on everyone's current listing of must-reads. An unbiased, quick-witted and aspiring feminine lead character captivates people and takes them on her behalf journey through Nyc society. Her friends include a spunky sidekick originally hailing from the Midwest, an elusive banker with charming ways and the son of some sort of prominent family using vast social joints.

    Set in Manhattan in the late 1930s, <em> Rules of Civility </em> is a tribute to that talents of first-time author Amor Towles, a principal at an investment firm by day. Meet Katey Kontent, an unbiased, witty and figured out main character that immerses herself in Nyc society while maintaining stellar work habits for a clerk in an attorney and then subsequent positions in the publishing industry. Katey believes your lady can spot a fraud from a mile away and knows ways to climb the societal strata without compromising her integrity in the process.

    Katey's best friend and confidante, Eve Ross accompanies her to underground Russian lounges, well-known upscale hotspots and also other exclusive Manhattan destinations. Using creative ways to maximize their reduced budgets, the two are able to meet an enigmatic banker termed Tinker Grey on New Year's Eve who charms them with his modest manners yet obvious wealth.

    A tragic affair sends the three reeling and upsets the balance of their individual relationships, with Katey ultimately forging an alternative path from that point forward. Throughout that novel, quick-witted dialogue punctuated by dashes in lieu of traditional quotation signifies invites the visitor to enter Katey's world and cheer her on as she navigates Manhattan's social circles and attracts new friends and suitors with her intelligence and no-nonsense style.

    Tinker Grey maintains an intrinsic role in Katey's life over the course of the book and intrigues her with his often contradictory behaviors and questionable motives. Katey also meets members of prominent The big apple families who attempt to win her ailments with invitations to help coveted events and weekends spent at a hunting lodge. Her determination together with wit allow her to use new friends to her social advantage while offering them stable company and dependability. Her own increasing financial stability is a result of hard work and networking; this independence sets her apart from many of the woman's female counterparts who ? re merely seeking some sort of husband and financial rewards.

Gentlemanly good manners, etiquette and several social mores lost and ignored within our modern world are embodied by the characters of <em> Rules of Civility </em> and leave the visitor longing for the opportunity to travel back soon enough to meet Katey Kontent and enter her world, if only to get a brief visit.
