HOW COME I CARE?
Greeting a stranger is always real nice,
even if you're never meeting them twice,
often you'll know in a second or two
if you can feel their connection to you.
But sometimes the strangest thing happens to me,
there is no logic or reason to see,
like when a stranger as you come along
into my life, and 'sneaking into' my song
and I wonder....
How come I care?
Just a little while ago you weren't there.
Right from the start
I could tell that I would never want to part.
I feel that I know you, - I know that I don't!
I could just forget you, - I know that I won't!
How come I care?
Even before I had met you, I knew
that there would be something special 'bout you,
words in an e-mail that sounded so right,
startet a friendship and lighted a light.
Feelings of confidence, feelings of trust,
knowing that meeting you now was 'a must',
call it coincidence, but as for me,
I know that meeting you was destined to be.
And I wonder....
How come I care?
Just a little while ago you weren't there.
Right from the start
I could tell that I would never want to part.
I feel that I know you, - I know that I don't!
I could just forget you, - I know that I won't!
How come I care?
You came out of 'nowhere' and right from the start
you managed to concour a part of my heart!
The 'once in lifetime' I came to you for
suddenly wasn't enough, I want more!
Magical hours of music with you
making the dream of my life coming true,
filling a void, was a pleasure indeed,
but it was followed by another big need.
And I wonder...
How come I care?
Just a little while ago you weren't there.
Right from the start
in a quiet way you walked into my heart.
You started a stranger, and then just 'like this',
you suddenly were like a friend that I miss!
That's why I care!
That's why I care!
I'm so glad you're there!

This is a beautiful song. I relate to this, a friend I met and immediately felt connected to, I hope he will be my friend for life.

STORY BEHIND THIS SONG: I wrote this song on the airplane, on my way home from my first recording session in Nahsville!
, I had not written songs for 15 years! But on my way home in the airplane I wrote THIS SONG! About how a stranger can touch your heart and be your friend right away. I always reflect a lot on what happens in my life. There I was...I just had the time of my life recording in that studio...and I felt sad about going home and leaving that stranger behind! This is not about love, by the way! I’m a very happily married woman. So HOW COME I CARE? Well this is my song for Mike and for strangers touching my heart! To friendship cross borders. Isn’t that just something!? WOW!
The first time I went to Nashville to record just two songs, just for the fun of it, just to try it, - like a 'once in a lifetime' experience, I was VERY BLESSED to be guided to Mike Headrick and his Mikron Recording studio as one of the very first ones. I had talked to a few others first, but just from the e-mails I got from Mike, I knew right away that HE was THE ONE I wanted to record with! Sometimes you just KNOW these things right? Also...and what are the chances?...one year earlier my husband had bought a steelguitar amplifier from Mike...and we had NO IDEA he owned a studio too at that time, but from this we also knew him to be an honest man. Of ALL the people playing music and having studios around Nashville, I was being guided to that very same man!....what are the odds?....I DO NOT BELIEVE in coincidences! That's for sure! This was MEANT TO BE!
Sometimes you just meet a stranger and feel connected right away! Like you already know them or something? Like this is a person you always want to have in your life, now that you have met him or her? Well Mike Headrick, my producer and now dear friend, was and is such a person to me! I had the time of my life recording these my first two songs with Mike and his studio band, and I knew right away that I needed MORE of this fantastic experience with these great guys! I was crying my eyes out as they made MY songs come to live in the most wonderful way!
Except one of of the two songs I recorded this first time (called ‘Little Old Women’ that I wrote for the occasion, just to see if I could still write songs
PS...Yes I wrote this song on the way home on the airplane. During the next two months I wrote SIX new songs, that I recorded six months later!
