REDHOTORE
Saw the whats new on Nettie and their is now a classmate feature.
To be honest I have not gone in to the programme...
BUT,,,,,,,,
is it a good idea for Nettie when so many members are 'under age'?
FRom SAfe Haven RAC etc the safety on line tips are about limiting info that will make you an ' easy' target.
I befrieneded someon on here who was at riskl and her school details were on her prodile. From her photo plus profile info he could have easilt waited outside the school gates fo her!
Nettie is a community site and does not have to compete with FReind Reunited!
Aftter recent Nettie poll showing people were scared about paedophiles is the latest Classmate feature going against on line safety tips and a feature not really required????

I hear you Kat but I really think that such a long message would be bad.
The other websites that are based on schools only are not limited to adults. I do not see anything that bad in here.
http://en.netlog.com/freddie_pheasant/myfriends
he has 79 friends of which 18 r 16+ an the otha 61 r 13 - 15 and he is 28
these ages are the teens we are trying to help
when things like this are going on on this site, it scares a lot of members away
tomek please do something there is nothing wrong with the idea, but if you insist on using it it has to be an over 18 member thing only as the teens already know most of their school friends who are members,
I am in the middle of a blog about this same subject and I have just been told that Netlog would have not provided the option if it was seen as any risk to younger members
It seems they simply cannot see the dangers and plough on, blindly ignoring child protection guidelines
Cheers!
Again I would say what members wanted this added??????
The poll had the biggest fear of on line paedophiles .. and this feature gives them a picture and a school... wait outside woith the lolliopos... or follow them home... "excuse me we met on line".........
would scare me sh*tless...
ands scares me knowing members of my family on here under 18 are at risk!

Thats exactly right and I'm puzzled by that guy who maintains the school feature isn't a risk and has been thought out properly.
With a picture of a young user and their school it is a major risk
that would be the community manager for netlog english or if u prefer a company figurehead or if it goes bad for the corporation the company scapegoat ... call it like you see it .....

Today we know that some percentage of folks in netlog are pedos, posing as teens to attract other teens, then there are many with underage lot in their friends list but since we cannot prove wots going on inside PMs we are helpless. A complaint cannot be registered against such creeps until an unless someone is victimized and a report has been recorded no one will know...
Some teens are just curious to know more about the adult world and take pleasure in extending their friendship to these elderly people. They don't even know wot risk they can be playing with cause they are in a world of illusion...
TO quote "some youngsters dress beyond their common sense"... this is true as they want to attract themselves to all, in the process may land in trouble. They find all these tempting and obviously choose the easiest and the wrong path...
So definitely with the introduction of schools all are gonna reveal it coz they want their friends to know...but we know how many friends and how many PERVS will follow the trail...
If we ask them choose the option "NO" will they agree?
if we ask them keep their profiles for limited accessibility, how many will listen?
We cannot blame the youngsters, they love colors...
So with this new option ain't our kids at risk?

there is no doubt the internet has changed the world and the way the world percieves each other .....if and let say it in large letter's ..if ....this was a adult site this discussion wouldnt even be taking place -that said .....netlog describes it's self as a supposed premier and safe place for young folks not as a dating site or as a sex site -if held to that i agree netlog is or could be a great site ...sadly 90% + of the people only seem to want to make it a sex site ( my humble observations notwithstanding ) netlog's ad spiel to industry used to harp on the fact that there was many young girls in revealing foto's who didnt mind showing themselves and interacting with others ... while that has changed on the surface i wonder at the depths of it .....netlog thinks this is good yet the majority of the comments from the user's ( the ones who really matter btw ) all seem to dislike this feature for the many stated reason's , i can see it now" hey i'm 13 a female and i go to our lady's sacred school - i get out every day at a quarter to 4 arent i so sexy etc etc ..... as it's been said ..a boon to would be stalkers and pedo's add to that millions of foto's of girls in panties and bra's and one wonders just exactly what are netlog's real intentions .......there have already been case's in the crown court of pedo's meeting young girls here and then taking them to msn or other such places and yes even meeting in real life how many more must there be ? better yet why would even more be encouraged ?
