it's easier to make a working steering system with only one rear wheel. with two I would have to figure out a way to make the inside wheel slow down during a turn.[/quote]

and the trick to that is weld on 1 wheel to your axle, make the other spin free (dont weld it to the axle) power only goes to 1 wheel,
that way when you corner the freespinning wheel will do the change in speed, dont have to worry about a thing...
thats my opinion thoe... your project do as you please,

thanks. that's actually a very good idea, I'll see if I can implement it when I go back to the project after the holidays are over

Sorry buddy didnt mean the double post there!
and yes lol, sorry for the mix up there, if you make your frame base a triangle she should be good to go (if you want 3 wheels) remember the shorter you make your frame, the less weight/ and more power... better for donuts too lol,

haha that's true, but sadly I don't think I could do donuts with bicycle tires and a 6.5 hp engine

Its all about gearing, which i gaurentee youll have to do... looks like that motor is off an awger?
youd be suprised what you can do with 2.5 hp engines,
if you wanna know about gearing it goes like this...
pinion (the gear on your motor)
and sprocket (which everyone knows is on your axle or rear tire)
the more teeth on your pinion the more top end (max speed)
the less teeth on your pinion the more bottom end (acceleration)
and the opposite for your sprocket (more teeth, more acc, less teeth more top end)
now if you want acceleration you have to sacrafice some of your top end, and again the opposite you want top speed sacrafice acc. my advice would be gear for acceleration because go karts arnt light to begin with, then you have the weight of the rider (so if you gear for top speed you probbaly wont move to quickly off the hop) hope that helps with your project!
cheers! youll have to show me pics of her done!

              gonna be unstable as hell!
and your frame will twist when you make your first turn,
custom fabicate go-karts and dune buggies, and your best bet for a three wheel design like that would be a triagle to a point (and the rear tire be the end of that point)
thats pretty nice front end thoe!

              thanks
but you contradicted yourself there, by saying the rear wheel should be the point of the triangle. that's what this is, from what you described. do you mean the frame should be triangle shaped, and the point be facing the rear?
